Apple Store is down, iPhone 5 name shows up in search results

Some events are closely associated with certain imagery. There are a lot of pumpkins around Halloween, a decorated tree on Christmas, lots of fireworks on New Year's Eve and, of course, the Apple Store goes down every time there's a new Apple product coming.

The Apple Store is down!

Unless you've lived in a cave for the last month, you'll know that today Apple will be launching the next generation iPhone (likely to be called iPhone 5). By the way, this isn't a technical issue, it's just an Apple tradition and a way to generate some extra buzz before the event starts.

While the Apple Store is down, mentions of iPhone 5 have cropped up in the search results on Apple's site. There are four such results at the moment, including the telling "http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2012/09/12Apple-Introduces-iPhone-5.html".

Also, how about this "iPhone LTE" page - it either confirms what the rumor mill has been saying or it's a troll on Apple's part (unlikely).

Of course, all of those links lead to missing pages, but they'll go live as soon as the official announcement takes place later today.

There will be a new iTunes too and perhaps a couple of new iPods as well - an iPod Touch and iPod nano.

The RAZR M and DROID RAZR M are Moto's latest phones

As US events usually go, today's Motorola announcement was centered around the new phones they will be releasing through the local carrier Verizon. We already told you about the RAZR HD and RAZR HD MAXX, but the most compact of the family is the Motorola RAZR M or the DROID RAZR M, as it would be known in the US.

Both phones are based on the powerful 1.5Ghz Snapdragon S4 dual-core chipset with 1GB of RAM and run Android Ice Cream Sandwich, but are promised Jelly Bean by the end of the year.

Motorola DROID RAZR M for Verizon US

As the most compact of the trio of phones announced today, the RAZR M has a 4.3-inch almost bezel-less screen of 540 x 960 pixel resolution, which reportedly fits in a body that's usually used for housing 3.5-inch screens. The RAZR M and DROID RAZR M profiles are also only 8.3mm.

International Motorola RAZR M

On the back of both phones, you will find an extra beefy 2000mAh battery and an 8MP auto focus camera with LED flash and 1080p video recording. Internal user-available storage is 4.5GB plus there's the usual microSD slot for expanding that.

The Motorola DROID RAZR M has support for Verizon's CDMA+LTE network plus quad-band HSDPA and quad-band GSM support. Motorola doesn't quote the network connectivity support of the international RAZR M ("Bands vary by country"), but we'd guess it's the same as on the DROID RAZR M but sans the CDMA+LTE support.

The Motorola DROID RAZR M will start shipping on September 13 with Verizon accepting pre-orders for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate starting today.

HTC to host September 19 event

HTC's September 19 event will reveal what's next

With confirmation that Apple and Amazon will be holding events this month, it comes as no surprise to learn another competitor in the mobile market will be hosting their own event.

HTC has sent out invites to a New York event to be held on September 19, where they promise to reveal "what's next."

There's no indication of what exactly HTC plans to show off at the event in two weeks, but with rumors about new HTC devices piling up in recent months, there's certainly no shortage of possibilities.

A new phone? A new tablet?

HTC has already revealed they've been developing a new tablet, though very little about the device has been shared beyond the acknowledgment of its existence.

A benchmarking for the HTC Vertex was discovered earlier this year, which may indicate HTC was planning to compete against the Nexus 7.

It's possible the Vertex is the tablet on display in these leaked photos, however no new concrete information about this mystery device has come to light.

Additionally, a few short weeks ago, photos of the HTC Proto were discovered, giving us the first glimpse at the new 4-inch phone.

Whether or not either of these two devices will be on hand remains to be seen, however HTC obviously has something important up its sleeve that they can't wait to show off.

No matter what HTC brings to the table, September is gearing up to be a very crowded month for reveals, so they had better bring their "A" game if they want to stand out from competitors.
