Alleged images of HTC M7 with Sense 5.0 leak

We have been hearing about HTC's upcoming flagship, known only as the M7 for now, for quite some time now. We have seen the leaked specifications as well as an early render. Now we have what are allegedly the actual pictures of the device.

One look at these pictures and you'll notice this particular phone looks nothing like the render we saw in the past, which looked more like the BlackBerry L-series device. This one has more in common with current HTC devices, such as the DROID DNA.

In the front we can see that HTC has once again opted to go with physical keys below the display. The display itself doesn't seem particularly large, which falls in line with the rumors of it being 4.7-inches in size. Above that lie the earpiece and the front facing camera.

The back looks similar once again to the DROID DNA, but the flash has moved over to the left of the camera lens and there doesn't seem to be an additional LED notification light, although a hole for the secondary microphone is clearly visible near the top right.

Android Police has managed to score some screenshots of the interface as well, which is now running the HTC Sense 5.0 skin. Compared to the previous iterations of this UI, 5.0 has a distinct flat look to it, which can be seem from the icons.

Of course, considering the amount of time and effort people pour these days in making fake images, you should take everything you see on this page with a pinch of salt. We will be finding out for sure how much truth there is in these pictures at MWC this year.

LG may be back as the second top phone manufacturer in the US

Yup, after years of poor performance in the mobile phone sector, LG may actually be back on track. We last heard that they've sold some 55 million handsets in 2012, even though their Optimus G was not doing terribly well, selling only 1 million units during the first 4 months of its availability.

But hey, perhaps due to the incredible popularity of the competitively priced and Google-sanctioned LG Nexus 4 (pictured left), LG managed to outgrow Apple's 13% US market share.

According to Counterpoint Research, LG actually scored a market share of 14% in the US. Now how's that for a comeback? We are yet to see where this would take them in the quarter that lies ahead.

Of course, we would advise anyone at LG to wait for a second confirmation from another market research agency before popping up that champagne.

On a side note, Samsung is still the market leader in the US with a 33% market share in the same period.

Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 receive Portico updates

After the US version of the Nokia Lumia 920 received the Portico update, its now the turns of the international version of Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820 to receive the update.

The over-the-air software update is reportedly rolling out to the users across the globe. The versions of their respective firmwares fix the image processing which resulted in blurry shots in good light.

The update also brings the all new "always-on" feature for Wi-Fi along with few add on options like rejecting calls with a message to the caller.

With the latest update, the battery seems to be offering more juice than before and the connectivity is said to be more reliable. The Internet Explorer too has been improved with this all new Portico update.

The update brings the software version number to 8.0.10211.204 - if you Lumia smartphone shows otherwise then you haven't received the update just yet.

Motorola X Phone with 5-inch display, Key Lime Pie set for Google I/O?

Motorola X Phone with 5-inch display, Key Lime Pie set for Google I/O?
Don't call it a Nexus

The much-vaunted Motorola X Phone will pioneer the Android Key Lime Pie OS and arrive at Google I/O in May, if rumours this weekend are to be believed.

A post on the DroidForums website said the device will be the first handset to ship with the Android 5.0 update and will tout a virtually bezel-less, edge-to-edge, 5-inch display.

The post adds that, although an announcement may be made at the Google I/O conference, the Motorola X Phone will not be classed as a Nexus device, per se, but as an entirely new sub-brand.

Instead, according to the rumour, a Nexus-like UI will sit on top of the Android OS. The post said: "Supposedly, Motorola has been working hard to create a UI that both compliments & enhances the Android experience, and is intended to be Nexus-like."

Interesting, the rumour claimed that the new UI will integrate a host of new features to rival Samsung's S-Beam, S-Voice and the like.

Too soon?

Just last month, Google CEO Larry Page claimed it was too soon for a Motorola Nexus phone although the launch of the X Phone at Google I/O would be the fruit to be bourne of the big Motorola buyout of 2011.

The company has been relatively quiet since the takeover, with no new, top-level handsets of note, but first dibs on Key Lime Pie would certainly put Moto back on the map

The post does advise that the rumour be taken with "a grain of salt," but it's certainly an interesting tidbit and seems entirely plausible to us. Roll on, Google I/O.
