iPhone 5S launch event reportedly happening on Sept 10

iPhone 5S launch event reportedly happening on Sept 10
One month

One month from today Apple will announce the iPhone 5S to the world at a press conference, according to a report today.

The iPhone 5S launch event is said to be scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 10, claimed sources who spoke to AllThingsD.

Previous rumors point to the next smartphone having a bumped up processor, likely the Apple A6X or the A7, a better camera to compete with the 13-megapixel Samsung Galaxy S4, and superfast LTE-Advanced.

There's also a lot of anticipation surrounding a possible fingerprint sensor, which is thought to be used to unlock the smartphone in addition to other security-related functions.

One item on Apple's agenda we know about for sure regards hearing more details about the launch of iOS 7, its fresh take on the mobile operating system that was first unveiled in June.

Cheaper iPhone, too?

Also expected on stage at next month's Apple press conference is an all-plastic, cheap iPhone model, currently being called the iPhone 5C.

The rumored budget-friendly smartphone would be a first for the company, with leaked images pointing to multiple colors in addition to a cheaper price.

Photos purported to be from factories in China seem to indicate at least six colors: red, blue, red, yellow, green and white.

Whether or not current iPhone owners opt for the cheaper versions may not matter. Apple is thought to be targeting areas of the world where more affordable handsets are popular, including populous countries such as China and India.

We will have our "i" on Sept. 10 here at TechRadar, so check back for the iPhone 5S launch event details on that day, if the latest report turns out to be accurate.

In the meantime, read about how iPhone 5S may have double the pixels

Sony Xperia Z Ultra display compared to the HTC One

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is the company's first ever phablet and with an expected global debut in September, the smartphone is topping the wishlists for a lot of people. One of the reasons for the excitement is its 6.4" Triluminos screen with 1080p resolution.

The screen not only has the nice sounding 344ppi pixel density but it also uses Sony's OptiContrast and X-Reality tech, which is the successor of the Mobile BRAVIA. But how good is it actually? Vietnamese website Secafe tries to answer this question by comparing it to the 4.7" full HD Super LCD 3 display of the HTC One.

As you can tell from the photo above, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra 6.4" display produces more saturated and vibrant colors than the display of the Super LCD 3 display of the HTC One. Contrast is superior as well, thanks to Sony's OptiContrast and X-Reality baked into the display.

Even though the pixel density of the Xperia Z Ultra screen isn't as high as that of the HTC One's display (469ppi for the One against 344ppi for the Z Ultra), Sony's phablet doesn't appear to struggle with the sharpness. Naturally, we'll pass a final judgement when we get to see them both in person, but looking at the photos below, the Xperia Z Ultra's display is almost certainly the best one Sony has produced to date.

Here are some of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra vs. HTC One display comparison photos for you to judge.

The Xperia Z Ultra is powered by Qualcomm's most powerful chipset to date - the Snapdragon 800 - featuring a quad-core 2.2GHz Krait 400 processor, Adreno 330 graphics and 2GB of RAM. We had the chance to put this beastly configuration under some benchmarking treatment and the results were astounding.

Apple brings developer centre back online following July hack

Apple brings developer centre back online following July hack
Back to work, devs!

Apple developers now can get back to work on awesome apps for iOS 7 and Mac OS X after the company restored access to the online portal, three weeks after it was taken down following a security breach.

As of Saturday morning, the developer.apple.com website was up and running once again with the company assuring its army of developers that all services were performing as normal.

Apple has been slowly re-upping services over the last couple of weeks, following a short-lived attempt to bring the site back on line at the end of July. This time the restoration appears to be permanent.

Apple has apologised for the inconvenience and extended all memberships by a month to compensate for the inability to access the portal.

No sensitive information lost

The hack took place in the middle of July and, while Apple assured its developers that no sensitive information had been compromised, it admitted some names, email addresses mailing addresses may have been accessed.

The company also announced it was rebuilding the system database while combatting the breach. It appears all of that work as now been completed.

As you were, devs.

White Google Nexus 4 stock finally arrives in UK through the back door

White Google Nexus 4 stock finally arrives in UK through the back door
Available white about now

When the limited edition white Google Nexus 4 handset sold out in double-quick time on the US Play store in June, the chances of seeing it land in the UK sat somewhere between slim and none.

Well, colour us surprised! Because the white-hued version of the LG-made Android Jelly Bean device has made its way to British shores and is available to snap up now

While there's still no sign of it on the UK Google Play Store, third-party online retailer Expansys has somehow gotten its hands on some stock, which it claims will arrive in four days.

The retailer is charging £310 for the 16GB device (that's £30 more than Google charges for the black device) and is pledging that shipping will commence in between 7-9 days.

Groundbreaker

The Nexus 4 itself was a groundbreaker in terms of offering high-end specs for low-end cost, but was plagued by supply issues meaning many hoping to obtain the device were forced to look elsewhere.

With the possibility of a Nexus 5 running Key Lime Pie on the horizon, the quad-core, Nexus 4 isn't quite the hot commodity it was a few months back, but it remains a great SIM-free option.

It rocks a 4.7-inch 1280 x 768 screen with 320 pixels-per-inch, a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and an 8-megapixel camera to boot.

As of last month, it also has Android 4.3 Jelly Bean available too, so perhaps that's something to consider -especially with the current penchant for the raw Android experience.
