Samsung Galaxy Express steams into your local AT&T store, where it’s yours for $100

AT&T has provided more details about the Samsung Galaxy Express, set to be released onto the network next week. Aimed at first-time smartphone owners, it has 4G LTE connectivity and a sensible price tag.

Previously announced in September, AT&T has now provided some more details about the Samsung Galaxy Express, it’s latest mid-range Android smartphone. The network is pushing the Galaxy Express as being suitable for first-time smartphone owners, or those who’re planning to upgrade from a basic device.

It’s making it an attractive proposition too, as it has slapped a $100 price tag on the front, provided you scrawl your signature on the bottom of a two-year contract. For that, you’ll get a curvy, Galaxy Ace 2-alike device that will happily connect to AT&T’s 4G LTE network.

The specification, while not quite up to the standard of the current crop of superphones, is still intriguing, particularly the screen. It measures 4.5-inches, a fairly unusual size, and one that’s shared by devices such as the Nokia Lumia 920, the Motorola Atrix HD and the Huawei Honor 2. It’s a Super AMOLED Plus panel too, meaning it’s the same as that seen on the Galaxy S2, and not the often unfairly maligned PenTile display used on the Galaxy S3.

Inside is a 1.5GHz, dual-core processor of currently unknown parentage, which should see the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system perform well. There’s no information on the amount of RAM, nor any clues on how much internal memory will be found inside the Galaxy Express, although a microSD card slot is present.

A 5-megapixel camera sits on the real panel, and other features include GPS, Bluetooth and a 2,000mAh battery.

Anyone interested in the Galaxy Express will be pleased to know it’s going to be available from AT&T on November 16. It’s also part of an AT&T offer where you’ll get $100 off a second Samsung smartphone when you buy a Galaxy-branded device with a new contract.

iOS 6 users reporting Wi-Fi connectivity issues

Are you struggling with Wi-Fi on your iOS 6 device?

Many iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners, who've upgraded to iOS 6, have been left without basic Wi-Fi connectivity.

Users are reporting a number of different issues and have taken to Apple's official support forums to register their displeasure.

In two lengthy threads (150 pages in total, CNET has reported) dedicated to Wi-Fi issues, many users have said their iOS device will connect on some networks but not on others.

Other users have been unable to connect to a Netgear Wi-Fi router - a problem which can only be solved by downloading new firmware for the router. Another thread focuses on "persistently slow" Wi-Fi.

AirPlay also affected?

While this isn't, strictly speaking, a Wi-Fi problem, the AirPlay connectivity on our iPad 2 has stopped functioning properly since updating to iOS 6, a problem also reflected by posts on Apple's support pages.

The company, which must be feeling pretty beleaguered at the moment given the backlash to Maps and the general malaise surrounding iOS 6, has yet to make an official comment on the alleged Wi-Fi problems.

However, it's not out of the ordinary for new versions of Apple's mobile OS to experience a few teething problems.

If past form is taken into account, it's likely that the company will quickly identify the issue and roll-out a bug-fixing minor software update.

LTE roaming may not be available in-between all carriers and band support does not necessarily guarantee support on all LTE networks running on the same bands.

The list of carriers offering LTE is certainly not long and the coverage in Europe is rather flimsy. Let's hope that a popular device such as the iPhone would be able to change the odds into the customer's favor.

EE spec sheet confirms Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean Android 4.1 update

Everything Everywhere has revealed the specs for the phones to have 4G connectivity, and one just happened to be the Samsung Galaxy S3 with Jelly Bean inside.

Everything Everywhere is bringing 4G to the UK under the new banner of EE and at the launch in London today it revealed the phones that will come with 4G connectivity.

One of those phones is the Samsung Galaxy S3 and according to EE's spec sheet, the 4G iteration of the handset will come packing Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Handling the Jelly

The specifications reveal that EE will offer the S3 in an exclusive Titanium Grey and it will come with Android 4.1.

Do not fear if you already have a Samsung Galaxy S3, though, as a reader has tipped us off that he has received the update and it is currently downloading 60MB of content on to his phone.

He has an international Galaxy S3 and is Germany, but at least it means that downloads are on their way.

Report: iPhone 5 will have international LTE support

Apple's LTE is going global

The Apple iPhone 5 may support LTE globally, allowing users to jump from country to country and continent to continent without losing their lightening fast connectivity.

This is according to a recent report, with sources telling the Wall Street Journal the device can pick up on LTE in places like the U.S., Europe and Asia.

While this is exciting in terms of connectivity and speed, the sources also said not every carrier will offer the service.

Showdown at the LTE corral

Apple needs to watch itself, however, as Samsung has threatened to sue if the Cupertino releases an LTE device.

Samsung holds 819 LTE patents and while the iPad 3 has LTE connectivity, the Korean company seems to be lying in wait for the iPhone 5, likely as payback for the $1.05 billion in damages it's supposed to pay Apple in lawsuit damages.

Apple has picked up several hundred LTE patents (434, to be exact) over the last year to cover itself against Samsung's potent patents, but that doesn't guarantee Samsung won't engage in a long, drawn out court battle with their rival.
