New JB ROM for Samsung Galaxy Note leaks, supports Multi-View

A couple of weeks ago we saw the first Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROM for the Samsung Galaxy Note leak, version N7000XXLS2, but now SamMobile claim that they have the real deal straight from Samsung's servers and that the previos ROM was a system dump.

The update brings the original Galaxy Note to Android 4.1.1 and gives it the latest TouchWiz with all the bells and whistles. The ROM also has basic support for Air View (detecting the S Pen from a distance and triggering previews), but that isn't ready just yet.

Before you flash N7000XXLS2 on your Note, have a look at this video N7000XXLS7, which some lucky guy in France who got the update early. It updates the phablet to Android 4.1.2 and enables Multi-View just like on the new Note II.

The video is quite long (and in French), but here are the juicy bits - flashing the ROM at 4:00, you can see the Jelly Bean version at 7:30 and 16:50, Multi-View is shown off at 9:00 and texting works too (13:00), suggesting it's a fully featured ROM.

You can't flash this ROM has yet as it still hasn’t made its way to XDA. On the upside, LS2 is from October 9 (nearly a month ago), so Samsung should be testing a newer version internally (possibly the LS7) and the update should be nearly ready (the Galaxy S II update should arrive at the same time too).

Nokia Lumia 822 for Verizon emerges in live photos

Following the press photo leak from a couple of days back, the Verizon bound Nokia smartphone has emerged in live photos. Dubbed Nokia Lumia 822, the Windows Phone 8 smartphone is (just like the Nokia Lumia 810) yet another carrier specific version of the Lumia 820.

The specs of the Nokia Lumia 822 are quite similar to the 820's, save for the presence of Verizon 4G LTE bands and the matte finish. They include a dual-core CPU, WVGA display, and 8MP camera.

The Nokia Lumia 822 is expected to go official for Verizon any day now, so we'll be sure to keep a close eye on it.

HTC One X+ goes on pre-order in the UK, to arrive in late October

The HTC One X+ went official a couple of days ago and the first pricing and launch info for the UK is in - Clove announced it is taking pre-orders for the flagship smartphone and that they expect to have it in stock near the end of October.

Their pre-order price is set at £474 ($764, €600) for the 64GB version (no info on the 32GB version yet). This is pretty much what the leaked O2 UK brochure showed, though the HTC One X+ is not available on O2 website yet.

Expansys UK is the only other etailer that's offering the One X+ at the moment - the price there is a bit higher at £490 and there's no estimated availability date.

In case you missed it, the HTC One X+ brings a faster quad-core processor - Cortex-A9 at 1.7GHz instead of 1.5GHz - with its updated Tegra 3 chipset, a version with 64GB of storage (in addition to the standard 32GB option) and a bigger 2100mAh battery (up from 1800mAh). It also got red accents a la Sensation XE.

The One X+ will be travelling across the pond too, with AT&T already talking it up.

Street View coming to Google Maps mobile Web app in October

google street view

If you're really missing Street View on your iPhone since you upgraded to iOS 6, you may be pleased to know that in a couple of weeks Google's Maps mobile Web app will include the feature.

When Apple launched Maps as part of iOS 6 recently, users were largely pleased with the look but disappointed with its usability – which is kind of important when it comes to finding your way somewhere. Stories surfaced of absurd inaccuracies, you know, cities in the sea, farms labeled as airports, that sort of thing.

Apple has said the more that people use its Maps app, the better it will get. Meanwhile, Google is reportedly working on a new Maps app for iOS, but it could be a couple of months before it sees the light of day. This has left many iPhone users who’ve upgraded to iOS 6 and who used Google’s Maps app on a regular basis scratching around for a solution.

Of course, alternatives are available, but the whole Maps mess may have left a few iOS 6 users wishing they’d held off upgrading until either Apple sorts Maps or Google releases its own Maps app.

However, there’s some good news for those who’ve switched to using Google’s Maps mobile Web app – Street View functionality, which gives users a ground-level view of the immediate area, should be on its way in a couple of weeks. Apple’s Maps app offers no such feature.

The information comes courtesy of New York Times’ columnist David Pogue who, in a piece about Apple’s Maps misstep, tells how he used the Cupertino company’s new app to guide him to a speaking engagement, explaining that while both the GPS navigation screen and spoken directions were clear, they took him to the wrong location. He was late for his talk.

Apple’s Maps “may be the most embarrassing, least usable piece of software Apple has ever unleashed,” Pogue wrote.

He laments the loss of Street View on his handset, but says that “in two weeks” Google will be including it as part of its Maps mobile Web app. His information comes directly from the Mountain View company, he said.

It was reported on Wednesday that in its forthcoming iOS Maps app, Google intends to combine Google Earth with Maps, though there’s no clear indication as to when it might be ready.

Apple weighs in: more than 2 million iPhone 5 pre-ordered

A couple of hours after AT&T announced that the iPhone 5 had broken the previous record for best-selling iPhone, Apple stepped up and gives us some exact numbers.

In a Press Release the Cupertino-based company shares that the iPhone 5 has hit over 2 million pre-orders in the first 24 hours after it went available.

In comparison the iPhone 4S got 1 million pre-orders last October in its first 24 hours, while the iPhone 4 got 600000 in 2010. Of course, the iPhone 5 is available in more markets than its predecessors, but the growth is still pretty impressive.

You can find the Press Release in the source link below.

Apple's iPhone 5 event live coverage

The Apple event is underway and the star of the show will be the new iPhone, though we expect to see a couple of new iPods as well. Here's the place where we'll be uploading the new info as soon as it becomes available, so make sure to keep an eye on this space.

Apple doesn't do live streaming, unfortunately, so we can't just embed a live video stream from the event as we usually do. Those Cupertino guy sure like being mysterious, don't they?

We've all seen the many leaked photos of various components, even whole prototypes, heard about what features the iPhone 5 will or won't have, now we're just waiting for Tim Cook to take the stage and put an end to the guesswork.

And Tim Cook is on stage!

He took some time to give us the statistics on Mac and Mountain Lion - there have been 7 million updates to Mountain Lion, Mac market share is up 27% in July.

iPads are on the rise too - 17 million were sold this quarter, bringing the total to 84 million.
