Google's upcoming Nexus 10 tablet leaks out in live images

Google's upcoming Nexus 10 slate has leaked out in live photos, confirming previous rumors for the Samsung made tablet. Set to be officially unveiled on Monday, the device packs impressive specifications, headed by a stunning 10.1" display with a iPad beating resolution of 2560x1600 pixels and a pixel density of 298.9ppi.

The Google Nexus 10 will feature a brand new dual-core Samsung Exynos 5250 chipset, whose Cortex-A15 cores run at 1.7GHz. The new silicon is reportedly faring better in benchmark scores than the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro. The Mali -T604 GPU is also brand new - it should be able to handle the massive amount of pixels with ease. Two gigs of RAM, 16GB of non-expandable built-in memory (other options will likely be available), 5MP camera (you can check out its samples here) with front-facing companion, and full connectivity suite are also on board.

The back of the slate appears to be made of metal, while the dual-speakers at its front remind us of its Samsung roots. The tablet is said to be remarkably thin for its size.

The Google Nexus 10 will launch with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which will bring a number of improvements to the OS. They include improved camera UI, support for multiple user accounts, as well as quick settings bar.

The Google Nexus 10 will break cover at a Google event in New York City on Monday, October 10. We will be there live, so be sure to stick around for the full scoop on everything Android.

Apple rumor overload: 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro, a curvy iMac and an iPad Mini price list

Monday is off to a flying start with a selection of new Apple rumors, including a 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro and an iPad Mini price list.

Monday is off to a flying start with several Apple rumors already “confirmed,” including a 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina display, a curvy iMac and an iPad Mini price list for good measure.

Let’s start with the big one. 9to5mac.com has heard from a “consistently reliable source” that Apple will introduced a Retina display-equipped 13-inch MacBook Pro during the iPad Mini’s launch event later this month. It will apparently be thinner and lighter, and offer different combinations of processors and storage options too.

Macrumors.com has found a few potential features for the 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro on a Chinese website, which claims the smaller computer will still have two Thunderbolt ports, a USB port, a headphone socket, an HDMI-out and an SD card reader; just like its bigger brother. There’s also talk of an interesting battery design — although it’s not elaborated upon — and the report is accompanied by a couple of pictures that, frankly, could show absolutely anything.

Before we move on, it’s best to clarify that we’re talking about a product that doesn’t exist being launched at an event that hasn’t been announced for another non-existent product. That said, it’s logical for Apple to produce a 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro, but at the moment we don’t know when that will happen.

The curvy iMac rumors seems to originate from the same Chinese website, where it’s said that the new model will have a curved shell that’s something like “a water droplet,” which sounds more like Samsung’s design philosophy than Apple’s. Naturally, it too is going to arrive at the small “intimate” event apparently set for October 23.

iPad Mini prices

Finally, we’re onto the event’s main attraction, the iPad Mini. A picture supposedly showing a list of iPad Minis that will possibly be stocked by German electronics retailer MediaMarkt has been leaked, complete with prices and basic specs. In addition to the usual 16, 32 and 64GB models, an 8GB iPad Mini appears, each with the choice of a black or white finish, and either Wi-Fi only or “cellular” and Wi-Fi.

The most basic 8GB Wi-Fi iPad Mini is priced at 249 euros, and the top 64GB Wi-Fi with 3G or 4G at 649 euros. A quick currency conversion gives us $322 and $840 respectively, the latter of which will probably have seen wallets everywhere twitch nervously.

Just like all the other iPad Mini rumors, there’s no way to know if this is really a screenshot from MediaMarkt’s computer system, and equally we can’t take those prices as final either, as Apple’s US pricing is often lower than it’s European equivalent.

October 23 is one week away tomorrow, which means that if an event is to take place, Apple will start to send invitations out very soon. We really, really hope it does too; if only to put an end to these infernal iPad Mini rumors.

Samsung lays out Jelly Bean update plan in vaguest way possible

Monday brought the latest update of Google’s mobile operating system, Android 4.1, to Samsung Galaxy 3S owners. While owners of the arguably most popular Android device are already enjoying the update to Jelly Bean, other Samsung consumers will have their sweet tooth satisfied soon. Well, kind of.

The Korean manufacturer is ready to roll out Jelly Bean to at least fifteen of their phones and tablets. Included on the list are the following:

  • Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
  • Galaxy Tab 2 7.0
  • Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
  • Galaxy S Advance
  • Galaxy S Duos
  • Galaxy S2
  • Galaxy S2 LTE
  • Galaxy Note
  • Galaxy Note 10.1
  • Galaxy Music
  • Galaxy Chat
  • Galaxy Ace Plus
  • Galaxy Ace 2
  • Galaxy Beam
  • Galaxy Mini 2

When will these devices finally get to install the latest installment of the Android OS? As soon as, well… soon. Samsung has given us device names, but no official date or timeframe for the arrival of Jelly Bean. Rumor has it if you can guess how many jelly beans Samsung has in a jar in their office, they will give you an early update. But that could also be a rumor we just made up (and it is).

Rumour: HTC 5-inch 'phablet' will be next Google Nexus phone

Rumour: HTC 5-inch 'phablet' will be next Google Nexus phone
It's still unclear who'll make the next Nexus

In more Google Nexus speculation Monday, HTC's name has been thrown in the rumour mill as the next possible host of an upcoming Nexus handset.

An anonymous GSMArena with connections to "a very reliable source within HTC" says a rumoured 5-inch phablet, often referred to as the HTC One X 5 or Droid Incredible X, will be Google's latest "pure Android" handset.

According to the source, the device will run on Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and bring improvements to Project Butter (which makes Android more fluid), more lock screen options, and additional minor improvements.

Not until Key Lime Pie?

However, this would be a surprise. In the past we've only seen Google-branded handsets like the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S, and Nexus 7 arrive alongside landmark Android updates.

Armed with that knowledge, we'd expected the next Nexus phone to go hand-in-hand with the launch of Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, rather than a Jelly Bean tweak.

In terms of specs, the tipster says the first Nexus phablet will have a 1080p screen, a Snapdragon S4 chipset, and 12-megapixel and 2-megapixel cameras.

The report also mentions a large 2,500mAh battery, which the device would surely need if the holy grail of a 1080p screen did turn out to be the headline feature.

All for one or one for all?

Up until now reports have hopped between the major Android manufacturers - Samsung, Motorola, LG and HTC - as potential partners for Google's next Nexus phone.

In addition, there's also been speculation that multiple Google-branded devices will welcome Key Lime Pie into the fold. Monday's reports, although interesting, do little to clarify the situation.

HTC handsets pioneered the early versions of Android. The beloved T-Mobile G1 was the first ever Android phone, while the ill-fated Google Nexus One, which introduced Android 2.0, was also built by the Taiwanese company.

Will Google, which has cosied up to Samsung for its Nexus phones in the last couple of years, go back to its oldest Android hermano for the next big hardware launch?

Third-party Lightning-to-30-pin adapters appear on Amazon

Third-party Lightning-to-30-pin adapters appear on Amazon
If you don't need a name brand...

Want an Apple Lightning-to-30-pin adapter but don’t want to drop $29 (£18) on one?

Starting Monday, you don’t have to.

Amazon has put pre-orders for legacy device-enhancing adapters made by third parties on its site, offering them up for $9.99 (about £6) and $17.95 (about £11).

Two companies - Nanotch and iTronz - are schilling the products, with the latter, selling the $10 version, promising to ship it by next week.

Apple’s adapters are “available to ship” in October.

Thanks to an erroneous message, customers thought they'd get a free adapter with the purchase of an iPhone 5, but Apple quickly pulled the message and reminded customers that they would indeed have to fork over some dough for the dock adapter.

New iPod pre-orders available, too

In other Apple/Amazon news, Amazon has begun taking pre-orders for Apple’s new iPod line - the reinvented iPod nano, iPod touch, and cheaper iPod shuffle.

Apple won’t start shipping the new iPods until October, so it’s unlikely Amazon will stray from the launch plan.

There also appears to be no change on the price front, either.

The iPod touch and iPod nano both need the slimmer Lightning cable to charge and connect.

TechRadar has reached out to Apple for comment on its policy towards third-party product manufacturers and will update this story if and when information is available.
