Sorry, Siri, but you're not in Scarlett's league yet

Scarlett Johannson voices a more advanced version of Siri in her new film Her, and Apple's personal assistant isn't happy, offering a host of snippy replies to iPhone owners who dare to mention the flick.

The Apple tool said "she gives artificial intelligence a bad name," among other digs, but now Scarlett, who stars alongside Joaquin Pheonix in Her has hit back at her electronic rival, calling Siri a "backstabber."

"I feel like I've been betrayed," she told Vanity Fair in an interview.

"The other day I asked Siri how I looked and she said, 'You're the fairest of them all.' So she's obviously playing both sides. What the hell? What a backstabber, man."

Engineering prototype of Nokia Normandy leaks in a live photo

Nokia’s much talked about Normandy headset with Android OS made a (sort of) live appearance. A photo of an engineering prototype of the device showed up on Twitter.

The image shows the yet to be announced handset boot up in a casing which conceals its looks. However, the button below its LCD display falls right in line with the press images we’ve seen already.

Rumored specs for the Nokia Normandy include Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 SoC, 4” FWVGA, 5MP camera, and Android 4.4.1 KitKat. The low-cost smartphone is tipped for a launch during MWC 2014 next month in Barcelona.

European Moto G gets Android KitKat update, now better value than ever

Moto G continues to gather momentum

The low cost Moto G handset from Motorola can now boast the very latest version of Android KitKat as part of its excellent value proposition.

The update hit European versions of the handset this weekend and can be downloaded over the air directly from the device.

It comes just days after Vodafone pledged to release the device on contract packing the Android 4.4.2 update.

Within that report we speculated whether Vodafone had earned dibs on the KitKat update, but now we know that's not going to be the case.

Suits you, sir!

Having Android KitKat gives potential suitors yet another reason to snap up the 4.5-inch 720p device.

The handset is available off contract for the modest price of £179 and brings with it a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB of RAM.

The Moto G may be joined in the UK by its big brother, the Moto X, this week with a London event planned for Tuesday.

Samsung Galaxy S5 tipped for March release in London

Yet another tip regarding the potential launch date of the Samsung Galaxy S5 made the rounds on Twitter. According to an Italian journalist citing “reliable source”, the next Samsung Galaxy flagship will launch in mid-March at an event in London.

At a quick glance, the alleged timeframe makes sense, as the Samsung Galaxy S4 got unveiled in March 2013 in New York. Previously rumored launch dates for the Samsung Galaxy S5 included this month, as well as during MWC 2014.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is rumored to take the design language of the range in a new direction. The handset is expected to feature a metal body and 2K display.

Android in December 2013: KitKat, Jelly Bean on the rise

Google released its traditional monthly Android version distribution numbers. The latest state of the platform saw Android 4.4 KitKat add a bit to its share and the latest release now powers 1.4% of all droids.

Despite not being the most current, Android Jelly Bean continues to gain ground. Its oldest 4.1 build slid 1.5 points to a share of 35.9%, which still makes it the most widely adopted single release out there. However, the two newer JB versions – 4.2 and 4.3 grew by 2.5 percent points each, bringing the total Jelly Bean share to 59.1 percent.

Android 2.2 Froyo, 2.3 Gingerbread, and 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the other hand, continue their decline. All three versions dropped their cut of the overall distribution. Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich were the biggest losers with 2.9% and 1.7% drops respectively, which is actually more than they lost last month, hinging at updates intensifying.

Curiously, Android 3.2 Honeycomb is still refusing to disappear form the map. The tablet-only Android version continues to sit on a 0.1% share – it has been there for a few months now.

Sony WP smartphone to come in 2014 under the Vaio brand

It appears that the negotiations between Sony and Microsoft have ended up successfully and the Japanese company will indeed be joining the list of Windows Phone hardware manufacturers. Microsoft’s Windows Phone director Greg Sullivan has confirmed that Sony will be releasing its own WP smartphone in 2014.

Better yet, the device is said to hit the market by the middle of the year, so we won’t even have to wait that long to see it. The new Sony smartphone will be carrying the Vaio brand, which should help you tell that it’s running a different OS from the Xperia handsets. With the limited customization options provided by the Microsoft partners, the Vaio smartphone will be relying on the Sony proprietary services such as Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited to help it stand out in the crowd.

The news that Sony and Microsoft have reached an agreements comes as little surprise, given that the deal will obviously be beneficial to both company. Sony has already expressed its desire to add a second platform to its smartphone lineup and Windows Phone is the most obvious choice. Microsoft, on the other hand, is looking to expand the reach of its mobile OS and a major manufacturer such as Sony will definitely help. Not to mention that the two companies have quite the long history of partnership in both mobile (remember Windows Mobile?) and desktop platforms.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo new photos, benchmark score arrive

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo is quickly becoming one of the industry’s worst kept secrets. First we got to learn its detailed specs and shortly after we were treated to its first live photo. Now, we get a bunch of new shots plus a benchmarks score, which show what the new hexa-core CPU can do.

The live shots show the Galaxy Note 3 Neo from all sides, but generally don’t bring much surprises. The new smartphone looks very similar to the Galaxy Note 3, but has its camera setup slightly altered. The microUSB 3.0 port is now gone, though, to be replaced by the more conventional microUSB 2.0

Now the benchmarks is where it gets really interesting – the new hexa-core CPU features two powerful cores (probably of the Cortex-A15 kind) clocked at 1.7GHz and four lesser Cortex-A7 cores running at 1.3GHz. Reports have it that those are part of the yet unannounced Exynos 5260 chipset and the Antutu score clearly proves that it features Heterogenous multi-processing (HMP), which enables all 6 cores to work simultaneously.
