Motorola Razr i announced, with Intel inside

Hello Moto

Motorola has announced that it is bringing the Razr M to the UK as the Motorola Razr i and that it will be powered by a new Intel chip.

At an event in London, with TechRadar in attendance, Motorola announced that it is bringing its latest Android handset to the UK, but it has tinkered with the phone's innards, adding a 2GHz Intel processor.

This is the first single-core 2GHz chip to be added to a phone and Intel reckons it matches and even surpasses other dual-core phones.

The Motorola Razr M was originally announced in the US with Droid branding and comes with a 4.3-inch screen, coupled with edge-to-edge display.

The Motorola Razr i is the UK version and the first collaboration between the company and Intel.

In a bid to compete with the iPhone 5, Moto is keen to point out that its screen is actually larger than that of Apple's latest handset - at 4.3 inches, 960 x 540 resolution.

According to Motorola, the battery is 2000mAh and is 40 per cent better than the iPhone 4S, and the screen is 15 per cent bigger than the iPhone 5.

Speaking about the new phone, Andrew Morley from Motorola said: "This is our biggest launch since the Razr and is the first result in the collaboration with Intel. We are literally pushing design to the edge."

While Jim Wicks, head of design, at Motorola said: "There is no denying that Motorola invented the technology that began the birth of the mobile industry.

"We invented the first mobile devices, so consumers could talk wherever and whenever they wanted.

"This legacy of creative thinking is something we have in common with Google.

"We are both driven by innovation and the new Motorola is focused on three key things: speed, power management – a phone is only half a phone if it only works half a day – and Android, which drives the kind of innovation that makes a difference in people's lives.

"We are extremely excited about bringing Android and Intel together."

Design wise, the Razr i has an aluminium frame wth a Kevlar rear and the screen is Super Amoled Advance. There's also NFC technology on board, with Android Beam, and an 8MP camera which offers up 10 shots a second and takes a mere second to start up.

When it comes to storage, there's 32GB, 16GB and 8GB on-board and if you want to expand this, then there is a MicroSD card slot.

The Motorola Razr i will come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but Moto assures that the phone will be upgraded to Jelly Bean in due course.

Motorola has added its own little software flourishes, including Smartactions which will trigger specific apps, and the interactive Circles Widget allows quick access to notifications, weather, time and all that gubbins.

The Motorola Razr i UK release date is early October. Orange, T-Mobile, Phones4U, Virgin Media and Tesco will handle the handset.
