Google Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus updated to Android 4.2.1

Google Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus updated to Android 4.2.1

Due an update

Google is pushing out a software update to some of its flagship devices, bringing Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean to the Nexus 7 tablet and the HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus smartphone.

A few hours earlier, the update went out to the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 10 tablet, too.

It's not a huge update, with only a few minor tweaks. But some users are already reporting huge improvements in speed, with the screen rotating much faster from portrait to landscape and vice-versa. Any 'choppiness' when streaming music over Bluetooth has been reduced as well.

Christmas isn't cancelled

Google has also fixed the December bug that we previously reported. This meant that the entire last month of the year was omitted from Jelly Bean's contacts app. So if anyone you knew had a birthday in December, you wouldn't be reminded of it. Thankfully that's sorted now.

The update is over-the-air, so your device should prompt you when it's ready. Or you can head to the Settings menu and click Software Update, and have a look for yourself.

Yesterday, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean started rolling out globally to the HTC One X. Some regions had seen the update already, but if you haven't yet, you shouldn't have long to wait.
