Geeksphone Peak+ with 1GB RAM goes on pre-order for €150

Geeksphone has started taking pre-orders for the Peak+ Firefox-powered phone. Geeksphone typically makes phones targeted at devs or tech savvy enthusiast, but says the Peak+ is also ready for consumers.

It's a small upgrade over the regular Peak – the RAM has been doubled to 1GB and the material used for the exterior has been changed to make it feel better to the touch. The phone will come with Firefox OS 1.1 out of the box, the same version the other two (Peak and Keon) recently got.

Other than that, you're still getting a Snapdragon 8225 S4 Play chipset (dual-core Cortex-A5 at 1.2GHz, Adreno 203 GPU), 4.3" IPS screen qHD (540 x 960) resolution, 4GB storage plus microSD cards slot and a 1,800mAh battery.

The Geeksphone Peak+ pre-order is at a promo price of €150 ($200), the same as the original Peak. This price will go up slightly after the initial batch of units is sold out (there's no indication what the standard price will be). The original Peak sold out fairly quickly.

If you pre-order now, Geeksphone will ship your Peak+ in mid-September.

Galaxy S4 was stellar for Samsung, but phone growth expected to slow

Galaxy S4 was stellar for Samsung, but phone growth expected to slow
We thank you for your help

Sammy is bringing up the rear in this whirlwind week of earnings results, today outing figures for the second quarter 2013.

While there were plenty of positives to report, Samsung cautioned that the next few months might not be the rosiest.

As it brought home a net profit of 7.77 trillion won (about $6.98b, £4.52b, AU$7.55b), the Galaxy S4 led the way in phone shipments. It along with the Galaxy Note 8.0 pushed the mobile division's profit up 9 percent from the previous quarter.

However, Samsung warned that while the sales in the sector should remain strong into Q3, the pace of phone growth is expected to slow.

TVs and air conditioners

Third quarter smartphone sales are expected to outperform global market forecasts, Samsung noted, with low- to mid-range smartphones helping boost the non-feature phone sect compose more than 70 percent of its handset offerings.

The company said it plans to "reinforce its market leadership in tablet panels by expanding" its high-res and mass market display line-up.

It also plans to focus on offering "differentiated smartphone displays," competing on a technological front with flexible displays, among other unnamed offerings.

Premium TVs and air conditioners helped the consumer electronics division see a 14 percent sales jump from the last quarter.

Strong seasonal demand will help premium TVs grow in the second half of the year, and a smattering of offerings - from UHD to curved OLED to Smart TVs - will help Samsung take on competitors, the company said.

Is it budget iPhone or iPhony in this latest video?

Is it budget iPhone or iPhony in this latest video?
Looks like the real thing, tastes like the real thing, fake plastic iPhone?

With the endless stream of supposed cheap iPhone pics that have been fired our way, we wouldn't be surprised if you've already made some sort of flip book of the thing in motion. For those of you with less time on your hands, this should do the trick.

The six-minute video by DetroitBORG shows the same plastic shell we've been seeing for some time now. It also puts the case side by side with some previous iPhone models to emphasise its iPod Touch-alike aesthetics.

Needless to say, we remain suspicious. While this agrees with the other leaks so far, the internet is also full of trolls. And yes, many of them would go so far as to make a fake iPhone case for the hell of it.

More blips!

Now check out more of our awesome blips:

Sony announces Android 4.3 update whitelist

Sony has just published the list of devices that will be getting the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update that was announced yesterday. On the smartphone side, the company will be bringing the latest Jelly Bean version to the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia SP and Xperia Z Ultra. The only tablet that is confirmed to get treated to the latest Android release at this point is the Xperia Tablet Z.

Sony is currently seeding the Jelly Bean 4.2 update for the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL. Starting from early August, the Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z will get Android 4.2 as well.

Some older Xperia phones running Android 4.1 are still under examination. There's a possibility that at least some of them will be updated straight to Android 4.3, but no names have been confirmed yet.

Additionally, Sony acknowledges that its updates haven't been "as succinct or as timely as you might’ve expected." The company's developers have now changed their workflow to assure that future updates arrive faster. The whole procedure is detailed in a lengthy and educational blog post, in case you are interested.

LG G2 leaks in multiple vibrant colors

The LG G2 has leaked numerous times already. This is why we mostly have a handle on the specs it will have – 5.2" 1080p display, Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2GB RAM, Android 4.2.2, 13MP camera and 2,540mAh battery.

We even saw several teaser videos that don't really give away anything but the taglines "To me, you are perfect" and "Learning from you" and show a short glimpse of the characteristic back with two buttons next to the camera.

Now there are a couple of new leaked images of the LG G2, which show a potential change in design. The curved back covered in glossy plastic can be seen in four different color versions – Black, Blue, Red and Purple. That's a departure from the clean glass look of the Optimus G and G Pro.

Leaked images show different colors

At the same time, the teaser site is available in two color versions – White and Black. Clicking between the two nothing but the background changes. Is this a slight hint that the G2 will stick to the black and white colors of its predecessor and these new leaks are fake? We'll find out for sure on August 7.

The good news is the event will be livestreamed, so you can watch the unveiling live. We'll put up the video when the time comes and we'll have people on the ground to bring you live photos and first-hand impressions.

Korean publication Khan throws in some more info – the LG G2 will reportedly launch in early August in South Korea, not long after the announcement, then in the US in September. Europe and the rest of the world will get the smartphone in October.

BlackBerry A10 pops up again in clearest leak yet

BlackBerry A10 pops up again in clearest leak yet
Slap your eyes on this

The BlackBerry A10 seems to be leaking all over the shop and we might have just got our clearest view of the super-sized handset to date.

A series of photos appeared on Taiwanese site Tinhte alongside a video claiming to show the A10 and a list of specs for the smartphone.

What's surprising about the latest photos is their clarity, with detailed high resolution shots giving us a good view of what is probably the BlackBerry A10 - and they're quite different from the blurry images we've had to go on recently.

A-class images

While the Taiwanese site may have got hold of the pictures, the handset featuring in the snaps appears to be a US variant as it's sporting the AT&T carrier logo on its rear.

The specs accompanying the photos and video seem to match those leaked last week, with the site claiming the A10 will sport a 5-inch display, 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front camera and a 2800mAh battery.

There's a bit of bad news for battery fans though, as the power pack doesn't seem to be removable in the BlackBerry A10 if these leaks are accurate.

This wouldn't be the first BlackBerry 10 handset to feature a non-removable battery with the Q5 sporting a sealed chassis, but the flagship Z10 and Q10 both give you the option to pop it out.

In terms of a BlackBerry A10 release date rumours suggest it will arrive before the year is out, but there's no clear date just yet.
