Netflix finally adds multi-profile support for Android devices

Netflix finally adds multi-profile support for Android devices
Netflix profiles: Keeping Glee out of your recommendations since 2013

Netflix users who shareaccounts with friends or family have become accustomed to accessing their personal profiles on multiple devices, but until now that privilege has eluded Android owners.

Not anymore though, as multi-profile support has finally landed on Google-powered smartphones and tablets thanks to an update dropping this weekend.

This means users won't see shared libraries and lists, while the recently watched and recommendations sections will only feature personalised content.

The update can be downloaded from the Play store now, so have at it, folks.

More blips!

Sadly, reading these blips won't prevent Glee showing up in your library

HTC One mini Android 4.3 update with Sense 5.5 is now seeding

HTC is now seeding Android 4.3 Jelly Bean to the One mini smartphone. The OS update also brings HTC Sense 5.5 to the metal-clad handset.

The 630MB large update brings a host of improvements and tweaks to the HTC One mini. They include the ability create custom feeds in BlinkFeed from new sources, as well as the option to disable the service altogether.

The Video Highlights section has been improved as well. It features new interface, as well as the ability to add soundtracks to videos. The music interface has been updated too.

Users of unlocked HTC One mini devices can check for the update manually by going into the handset’s settings. HTC might be rolling out the new OS version in stages, so if you don’t see an update available, be patient.

Windows Phone 8.1 to morph Android with new on-screen function buttons

Windows Phone 8.1 to morph Android with new on-screen function buttons
Microsoft to offer on-screen buttons in Windows Phone 8.1

Microsoft is set to borrow a page from Android's playbook, by moving its capacitive physical buttons within the touchscreen display on the forthcoming Windows Phone 8.1 update.

A leaked screenshot published on Twitter by @evleaks (who else?) revealed the Back, Windows and Search buttons within the display, rather than the physical buttons beneath the touchscreen.

It's a feature Google adopted within Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich a couple of years back and now it seems Microsoft is ready to jump on board.

According to reports, Microsoft believes the the option to ditch the capacitive buttons will lower costs for Windows Phone handset manufacturers as simpler hardware designs will be possible.

A Galaxy with Windows Phone?

It's not just the removal of the physical buttons that would lower costs for manufacturers, it would also allow them to launch more similar versions of their Android-based handsets for the Windows Phone OS.

Could we see the likes of HTC and Samsung launch versions of their popular One and Galaxy hardware ranges running Windows Phone 8.1?

Microsoft is set to reveal more about Windows Phone 8.1 at its Build conference in April next year, so it'll be a while before we find out for sure whether this weekend's leak will come to fruition.

Windows Phone 8.1 Blue update adds on-screen nav buttons

On his Twitter account, renowned leakster @evleaks has shared a part of a screenshot from Windows Phone 8.1, which shows on-screen touch navigation buttons. Currently, the three-button combo of Back, Windows and Search keys aren't part of the user interface, like they have been on many Androids since Ice Cream Sandwich, but below the screen in either hardware or capacitive touch flavors.

evleaks' tweet suggests Microsoft is going to change that and will either go for software navigation keys or diversify the portfolio of Windows Phone devices giving OEMs the choice between hardware and virtual buttons.

Other Windows Phone 8.1 rumors suggest we're in for a notification center, enhanced multi-tasking and a Siri-like voice assistant.

We suspect Microsoft will official unveil its upcoming WP 8.1 OS at their Build developer conference in April, 2014.

Sprint is considering a bid for T-Mobile

The Wall Street Journal has published a report suggesting US carrier Sprint is working on making a bid for T-Mobile. According to the sources issuing the information, Sprint is currently researching and studying the regulations in order to launch a bid and plans to do so in the first half 2014.

It's too early for Sprint to have any price in mind, although according to analysts the deal could be worth more than $20 billion. The price would largely depend on the stake Sprint would like to acquire from T-Mobile.

This is just a rumor for now, as Sprint hasn't talked of any such plans. Even if it does want to move forward with a bid, the carrier would face the US regulators and antitrust authorities, who almost two years ago shut down AT&T's bid for the Deutsche Telekom owned US carrier.

If Sprint and T-Mobile were to merge, though, they'd boast a combined subscriber base of 53 million people. This would help even the field of US carriers and make things more interesting in terms of competition. AT&T is currently second with 72 million subscribers, while Verizon leads with 92 million.
