ZTE Grand X Pro press image breaks loose

ZTE may have just announced a bunch of new phones, but it seems there is even more cooking in its labs. A leaked image supposedly shows the Grand X Pro – the ZTE’s next flagship.

ZTE Grand X Pro

It looks really cool and seems to be running an almost vanilla Android OS.

There is nothing more coming with this pic, but since the previous Grand X LTE announced this summer runs on a dual-core Krait, we guess the Grand X Pro may introduce the quad-core Krait to the lineup.

Samsung to reveal 'radical brand makeover' at CES 2013?

Samsung to reveal 'radical brand makeover' at CES 2013?
New look Samsung coming at CES?

Samsung will unveil an entirely new brand image at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, according to reports.

According to the report from Australia's Channel News, Samsung is looking for a "complete new look" that will rival Apple's iconic and "vibrant" international brand image.

The Aussies have word that Samsung has enlisted the help of a design team that has previously worked with Nike on a host of branding initiatives.

The man said to be heading up the project is Scott Bedbury, a freelance brand consultant who has also worked with Starbucks.

Global powerhouse

According to the report, any would seek to reflect Samsung's success in moving from an Asian brand to the global powerhouse we see today.

"Even the advertising will change with products linked to lifestyle activities similar to what Nike does" said a Channel News source.

Whether the report has merit or not remains to be seen but CES in Las Vegas in January would be a great time to start afresh.

The eyes of the world are trained on the Las Vegas Convention Centre and it would certainly allow Samsung to throw down a marker and signal its intentions for the year ahead.

New photo might show Samsung Galaxy Premier

New photo might show Samsung Galaxy Premier
Almost ready (credit: SammyHub)

A new image showing off Samsung phone GT-I9260, otherwise known as the Galaxy Premier popped up Friday.

The photo shows a sleek little white phone and is purportedly sourced from Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC), an agency like the U.S.'s Federal Communications Commission.

No specs accompanied the photo, though it does provide a more full-bodied image of the phone than another leak that surfaced earlier this week.

When and where this phone will land remains a mystery, though this new revelation points to a Taiwan release happening sooner rather than later.

Premier parts

According to @evleaks, which published the week's first Premier shot, the phone will have 1GB of RAM, a microSD slot for up to 32GB of extra storage, an LED flash and Samsung's TouchWiz user interface.

It should also run Android 4.1: Jelly Bean and host Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and DLNA.

What's more, users should find a 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 180 x 720 and an 8-megapixel camera.

The processor is pegged as a 1.5GBz dual-core chip, and the Premier will likely include Wi-Fi and 16GB of internal memory.

Depending on how Samsung prices the Premier, it could be one hot little number.

Another photo, new details on LG Nexus 4 emerge

Another photo, new details on LG Nexus 4 emerge
Not the best image, but at least we get some info (credit: @evleaks)

Considering the device isn't even officially acknowledged yet, there's a surprising amount of information available about the LG Nexus 4.

What's likely the new flagship Android device first popped up in early October, when it was rumored that the LG Nexus 4 (then known as the LG Optimus G Nexus) would appear alongside Google's Android 4.2 update in November.

Since then, multiple sources have suggested that the device will go by LG Nexus 4, and supposed photos of the LG Nexus phone (here's some more) and hands-on reports have emerged as well.

On Friday, new details, along with another photo, emerged once again.

@evleaks at it again

The Twitter handle @evleaks has shed light on devices ranging from the Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 to, more recently, the HTC One X+.

So it was no surprise that the latest LG Nexus 4 leak came by way of the @evleaks Twitter account as well.

The photo appears to show a simple view of the back of the LG Nexus 4, and it looks to match earlier images.

A wealth of information (Credit: @evleaks)

More importantly, the details in the tweet reveal some previously unknown data about the device's measurements: it reportedly weighs in at 139 grams and measures 9.1 millimeters, with a 4.7-inch screen.

LG Nexus 4 specs: what we think we know

Those details, as well as the 1.5GHz APQ8064 quad-core processor, 1280x768 resolution, 2GB of memory, 8-megapixel camera and 8GB-16GB of storage mentioned in the tweet, support previous rumors about the LG Nexus 4.

The @evleaks tweet also mentions a 2,100mAh battery and a 1.3-megapixel front camera.

As was previously reported, the LG Nexus 4 sticks closely to the LG Optimus G's innards, while apparently bearing a striking external resemblance to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

With a Google Android hardware announcement scheduled for Oct. 29, an official unveiling of the LG Nexus 4 seems just around the corner, so all may soon be revealed.

iPhone 5 users report 'purple halo' camera glitch

iPhone 5 users report 'purple halo' camera glitch
iPhone 5 (left) vs iPhone 4S (Image credit: Mashable)

Following days of reports centred around misfiring Maps, scratched aluminium and leaking light, the iPhone 5's iSight camera is apparently next in line for a roasting.

Users on the AnandTech forums are reporting that a purple halo, haze or flare is appearing on photos taken with the 8-megapixel snapper, when a bright light source (natural or unnatural) is just out of shot.

According to multiple user submissions, the unwanted tint appears on screen when taking the shot, as well as on the subsequent photo itself.

Not all iPhone 5 owners are experiencing the problem, while one user's posted a video showing evidence of the issue when shooting video as well as stills.

Sapphire to blame?

Onw view is that the issue is caused by the new sapphire crystal lens cover.

However, CultOfMac points out that sapphire comes in a range of colours and thus the problem might be a result of light refracting through only the purple coloured lens covers.

Mashable also examined the claims with its own tests (including the photo that accompanies this story), which seems to confirm beyond reasonable doubt that the problem does indeed exist.

However, in certain circumstances it found the purple haze to be more evidence in photos taken on the iPhone 4S than on the iPhone 5.

Apple is well aware of the issue, according to one forum user who called tech support. That individual was allegedly told that the issue was widespread and under investigation.

TechRadar has reached out to Apple and will update this story should a response be forthcoming.

Ups and downs

Amid a litany of complaints that the aluminium coating can be chipped, scuffed and scratched too easily, Apple has also had to deal with accusations that the iPhone 5 leaks light from the top of the device.

Add those alleged design flaws to the continued furore surrounding the Maps app, and one could be forgiven for thinking that a black cloud hangs over the launch of Apple's sixth-generation smartphone.

Naturally, however, it's the most successful iPhone launch in the company's history with 5 million handsets sold during the first weekend.

HTC One X+ makes Twitter appearance

HTC One X+ makes Twitter appearance
Lookin' mighty mighty (credit: @evleaks)

An image purportedly of the HTC One X+ popped up Wednesday, giving for the first time a face to the device that's been making the rumor rounds.

There's not much to the image, which was posted on @evleaks Twitter page, other than a basic black bezel, though it does appear as hefty as reports have indicated it will be.

What's most noteworthy is T-Mobile's logo emblazoned front and center, indicating a definite carrer for this Tegra 3-packing "superphone."

"HTC One X+ for T-Mobile USA," evleaks wrote to accompany the photo, though that's the only suggestion of a country-specific carrier for the phone.

Though it's plain on the outside, for this device, it's what's on the inside that counts.

That "+" factor

If what we've heard about the One X+ so far is true, than HTC has a Twitter leak problem on its hands.

Earlier this month, another leaker posted specs for the device.

Thanks to those, we learned the X+'s internals don't include any old Nvidia Tegra 3, but rather a Tegra 3+ AP37 1.6GHz quad-core processor.

What's more, it'll have 1GB RAM and 32GB ROM, as is the case with the current One X, but unlike that phone, it should run the Android 4.1.1: Jelly Bean.

We're also looking at a 1,800mAh battery, making this device, if it indeed ever comes, a nice follow up to the well-received One X.

Samsung S Cloud pops up on the Galaxy Note 2

Samsung offers up a bit of cloud control

Samsung's much rumoured but not yet confirmed S Cloud appears to be real, with an image of it working on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

The Samsung S Cloud is, yes you've guessed it, Samsung's apparent foray into cloud storage. We have to say apparent as Samsung has yet to confirm its existence. This is despite rumours that the technology was set to launch alongside the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Now the cloud storage service has cropped up again in a photo that seems to prove its existence. And the bonus is that even though it is a spy shot, it's not even blurry.
Cloud speaker

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 launched at IFA 2012 in Berlin and an eagle eyed German blogger from BestBoyZ spotted the functionality.

Interestingly, the S Cloud currently seems to be a shell for Dropbox, so it may well turn out that the S Cloud is a collaboration with the popular file-distribution app.

If S Cloud, when/if it does arrive comes with similar Dropbox functionality then it will be able to sync pictures, movies and documents into the cloud.

Given that Samsung has expanded Android to its latest camera range, this could well be an integral part of the camera's functionality – and it certainly wouldn't go amiss on Samsung's bevy of smartphones and tablets.
